BioMark instrumentation consists of two software/hardware packages, which are compatible with any chip from Fluidigm for performing TaqMan® assays.

The NanoFlex™ IFC Controller
After transfer of samples and reagents into microwells on the chip frame, the chip is placed into the NanoFlex IFC Controller. The scientist uses a laptop computer and a software user-interface to control the valves and pressure-load the fluids. The scientist simply starts the program and walks away. The samples and reagents are automatically routed to their respective chambers for PCR amplification. The controller accepts as many as four dynamic arrays or digital arrays at a time and can be run in asynchronous or group mode.

The BioMark™ System for Genetic Analysis
The BioMark System for Genetic Analysis includes the optical equipment and software modules to perform thermal cycling and real-time analysis of qPCRs on dynamic arrays or digital arrays. The system operates in a single- or multi-chip mode.
The detection technology consists of a 300-watt Xenon lamp and a wheel with five excitation filters and five emission filter positions. A high-resolution CCD camera captures signal, within a 30 by 30 millimeter area, for up to 10,000 reactions at a time. This capability provides compatibility for future higher-density chips. The integrated thermal cycler provides thermal uniformity across all reaction chambers.

The system is equipped with additional features that enhance throughput and ease of use:
A computer-controlled chip tray minimizes manual work.
An integrated barcode scanner identifies each chip type and tracks results.
High-speed computer connections allow data from the BioMark system to be easily integrated with a LIMS.
Setup and acquisition software may be easily interfaced with liquid-handling workstations
