It automatically punches without the need for the operator to insert the framed sample card.
The instrument has been designed to accomodate internationally accepted and standardized framed cards.
Samples cards are preloaded into a card magazine with is placed in a magazine holder. A card gripper extracts the sample card from the magazine and transports the card to the scanning module (for scanning the sample area to determine possible areas for punching full sample disks) and to the punching module (for punching of disks into microtitre plates and deep well plates).
The sample card is then returned to the card magazine for storage. When punching is complete or the plates are full, the plate carousel will move automatically to a position where, if required, a liquid handling platform robot will pick up the plates for downstream processing. Sample card magazines can be loaded onto the instrument continously during the process. This unit also has the BSD Low-Pressure Air System, with a humidifier, which reduces the effects of static electricity.
The instrument has highly flexible software and barcode reading capability which provides positive identification of card magazines, samples, standards, controls and plates throughout the whole process. The software generates an comma-delimited ASCII output file after every run. This file can be exported into the LIMS or any downstream instruments. The instrument can also punch according to an ASCII input file (e.g. for re-work purposes) imported from the LIMS. The unit will scan the sample (or controls and standards) barcodes determined in the input file and punch the number of disks required into specified wells of the specified plate. The unit will only punch the sample if the barcode scanned is identical to the one in the input file.
